We’ve all experienced setbacks, in life or in our professional career. But one thing I learnt is that what you do when you hit a setback or even a roadblock is entirely up to you. I have learnt that we can always choose to find the good in any situation including situations that don’t look good at all. It all depends on what you want to take from them. If you want to take the lesson, that is always a good in itself however it usually isn’t just that.

How can you deal with setbacks in ways that are positive? The first important step is to accept that there is a problem. By accepting that there is a problem you begin the process of change. You should also be aware that when you get to the other end you will not be the same person you are now. You’ll be wiser, stronger and better. There’s no turning back. Secondly, stop trying to blame someone or something for your setback. It doesn’t really help to move forward especially if you cannot reverse the situation.

Very important indeed however is to give yourself time. Do not be impatient to see yourself through to the other side. Do give yourself time to lick the wounds. Although it does not serve you to dwell too long on a problem, it is also important that you give yourself time to heal and recover. Once that is done, get out of your comfort zone, stare at the setback in the face and confront it. Setbacks can be overcome, there is no need to be a victim. A setback cannot stop you from being who you want to be and what you want to do, only you can. What you do with setbacks is entirely up to you.
